This seminar is intended for any researcher (professor, post doc, grad student, undergrad) conducting work that may result in a patentable invention or even a startup company. Using real-world examples from over a decade’s worth of patent experience with nanotech and materials science inventions, registered patent attorney Andrew Baluch (McC ’03 BS, ’04 MS) will share tips for submitting invention disclosures that will result in stronger patents and a higher likelihood of attracting funding and licensing interest. Indeed, merely submitting a copy of your journal manuscript is not good enough; such disclosures are easily “designed around” by competitors. You will learn (i) the most common ways competitors will try to avoid your patent and (ii) ways you can strengthen your invention disclosure to maximize its value.
